HLADI Supported Nutrition Budget Tagging Trainings Across All Six Geo-Political Zones

13 Oct, 2025

The Health and Lifestyle Awareness Development Initiative (HLADI) proudly supported the Nutrition Budget Tagging (NBT) Training conducted across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones,  as part of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP)’s nationwide efforts to strengthen public financial management for nutrition.

These zonal trainings were designed to build the capacity of state-level stakeholders—budget officers, nutrition desk officers, planning units, MDAs, and development partners—to accurately plan, assign, and track nutrition expenditures using the national Nutrition Budget Tagging system.

HLADI’s Role Across the Zones

As a key technical partner, HLADI provided full ICT and digital support across the zonal trainings, ensuring smooth execution of all digital components of the workshop. This included:

- Creating and deploying pre-tests and post-tests

- Managing daily participant evaluations

- Providing digital registration and attendance tracking

- Offering real-time ICT support to participants

- Photo documentation and dashboard uploads

- Troubleshooting access issues and network challenges

HLADI’s involvement enhanced learning outcomes by ensuring that all participants were able to complete assessments, access training materials, and submit evaluations seamlessly.

Strengthening Nutrition Financing Through Capacity Building

During the zonal trainings, stakeholders were trained on:

- Understanding Nigeria’s Nutrition Budget Taxonomy

- Identifying and tagging nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive budget lines

- Using evidence to support nutrition budget advocacy

- Utilizing digital tools for Public Financial Management (PFM)

- Applying standard reporting formats for transparency

HLADI’s digital systems played an essential role in generating accurate, real-time data for tracking participation and assessment performance across the zones.

Improved Participation and Learning Outcomes

Across the states and zones, HLADI observed high engagement in digital assessments and evaluations—mirroring similar positive outcomes documented in FMBEP budget tagging workshops in FCT, Bauchi, Lagos, Akwaibom, Enugu and Kano where HLADI registered 560 participants, with pre-test completion at 88%and post-test completion above 80%, demonstrating strong participant engagement

The evaluation data collected helped facilitators refine content delivery and identify areas requiring additional capacity strengthening.

Conclusion

HLADI’s support across the six geopolitical zones—especially the South East—ensured efficient, well-documented, and data-driven Nutrition Budget Tagging trainings. These efforts contributed significantly to strengthening nutrition financing structures nationwide, improving accountability, and advancing Nigeria’s goals for sustainable nutrition governance.
