The Health and Lifestyle Awareness Development Initiative (HLADI)
proudly participated in a groundbreaking webinar hosted by UNESCO, which aimed
to engage a diverse range of stakeholders in collaborative discussions. This
innovative meeting focused on finalizing the Readiness Assessment Methodology
(RAM) instrument as part of a comprehensive data collection initiative
addressing critical aspects of artificial intelligence ethics in Nigeria.
Held from 11 AM to 2 PM, this four-hour interactive session
brought together a wide array of participants, including private companies,
non-governmental organizations, advanced study centers, and representatives
from national commissions and departments. The event underscored the importance
of a multi-stakeholder approach in addressing the complex challenges posed by
artificial intelligence and its implications for society.

and regulations governing artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for
robust policies that protect citizens' rights while fostering innovation.
Social/Cultural Dimensions: The conversations delved into the
societal implications of AI, considering cultural perceptions and public
sentiment towards emerging technologies. This dimension aimed to identify
potential barriers to acceptance and integration.
Scientific/Educational Dimensions: Attendees discussed the
critical role of education and scientific research in demystifying artificial
intelligence, fostering a well-informed public, and preparing future
professionals to navigate ethical dilemmas in the field.
Economic Dimensions: The economic implications of artificial
intelligence were a focal point, with discussions centering on how AI can be
leveraged to drive economic growth while also addressing concerns about job
displacement and inequality.
Technical and Infrastructural Dimensions: Participants examined
the technical requirements and infrastructure needed to support ethical AI
practices, highlighting the importance of investing in technology that aligns
with societal values.
HLADI's representatives contributed significantly to these
discussions, sharing insights drawn from their extensive experience in public
health and community engagement. Their expertise enriched the technical and
infrastructural sessions, ensuring that the data collection process was not
only thorough but also reflective of the realities faced by various
stakeholders in Nigeria.
By engaging actively throughout the meeting, HLADI demonstrated
its commitment to fostering ethical practices in emerging technologies. This
collaboration with UNESCO not only highlights HLADI's role as a key stakeholder
in the discourse on artificial intelligence but also reinforces our dedication
to promoting informed decision-making and responsible technology use in
Nigeria.
As we move forward, HLADI aims to leverage the knowledge and relationships built through this webinar to drive positive change in our communities. We are committed to advocating for policies that prioritize ethical considerations in technology, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more equitable society. Through our continued engagement with international organizations and local stakeholders, HLADI is poised to lead efforts in promoting a balanced approach to technological advancement, ensuring that the benefits of artificial intelligence are realized by all segments of society.
