HLADI Participated in the Nutrition 774 Initiatives Program

27 Feb, 2025

The Health and Lifestyle Awareness Development Initiative (HLADI) was privileged to participate in the Nutrition 774 Initiatives Program, a transformative national effort aimed at addressing malnutrition and improving health outcomes across Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas.

Organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the program served as a collaborative platform bringing together government institutions, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and global development partners committed to advancing nutrition and public health.

Key Highlights of the Program

The Nutrition 774 Initiatives Program convened high-level dignitaries and technical experts, including:

- The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP)

- Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOHSW)

- Senior officials from UNICEF and other development partners

Their participation underscored the program’s importance and the necessity of a unified, multisectoral approach to tackling malnutrition in Nigeria.

Program Objectives

The initiative emphasized a comprehensive, multisectoral strategy designed to address the complex and interconnected drivers of malnutrition. Key focus areas included:

- Improving Access to Nutritious Food: Ensuring that communities have reliable access to affordable, nutrient-rich foods.

- Promoting Healthy Eating Habits: Educating households and communities on the importance of balanced diets and nutrition-sensitive behaviors.

- Enhancing Nutrition Education and Awareness: Increasing public understanding of nutrition’s role in health, development, and productivity.

- Supporting Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture and Food Systems: Strengthening agricultural practices that prioritize food security and diet quality.

- Strengthening Nutrition Governance and Coordination: Improving policy frameworks, multisectoral coordination, and accountability across federal, state, and local levels.

Through these focus areas, the program aimed to reduce malnutrition, improve health outcomes, and enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians—particularly vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

HLADI’s Commitment and Contributions

HLADI actively engaged throughout the program, contributing expertise, sharing best practices, and supporting dialogue on sustainable nutrition interventions.

Our participation enabled us to:

- Exchange insights on nutrition programming and community-level engagement

- Forge new partnerships with government and development stakeholders

- Strengthen collaboration for scaling nutrition interventions nationwide

- Gain technical knowledge through plenary sessions, group discussions, and professional networking

HLADI reinforced its commitment to driving meaningful, evidence-based change in Nigeria’s nutrition landscape by working collaboratively with all stakeholders.
